TOUGH NIGHT FOR STARTERS...
The Covington Lady Buccs shot themselves in the foot with numerous mistakes and it cost them in a three-game defeat to Fairlawn.

AUGUST 30, 2010 - FAIRLAWN
It wasn't a good start to the season for the Covington Lady Buccs and first-year coach Lindsey Sullenberger at Fairlawn on Monday.

Covington dropped all three games by the scores of 19-25, 5-25 and 13-25.

"Mistakes, that's what cost us," said Sullenberger. "We shot ourselves in the foot tonight."

Covington tallied 20 defensive errors (digs and serve receive), 18 attack errors and four serving miscues.

"Everything snowballed on us," Sullenberger explained. "We came out a little nervous, made a couple of mistakes and then got down on ourselves. It snowballed from there and we could never get out of it."

The lethargic start to the season came as a surprise.

"We're much better than this," Sullenberger continued. "We had a hard time getting the ball back over the net. It wasn't a good start."

Caitlyn Crawford had eight kills and Emily Henry recorded nine digs, but not much else materialized in favor of the Lady Buccs.

Fortunately Covington has an opportunity to address its shortcomings in practice on Wednesday and right the ship on Thursday at Newton.

"We know we can play better than we did tonight, so we'll put this one behind us and move forward," said Sullenberger. "Hopefully the girls regain their focus and come ready to play on Thursday."

The junior varsity squad also dropped all three games.
