TROY - Seven Buccaneer athletes will make the trek to Columbus next week to represent the Covington Buccaneers in the state track meet - one as a regional champion.
And the regional champ was sophomore Jett Murphy, who won the pole vault with a height of 14 feet, which tied the school record he already shares with 2003 State Champion, Jon Sampson.
Fellow sophomore, Cade Harshbarger qualified for state in two events as he finished third in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 15.45 and fourth in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 40.79.
For the girls, sophomore Breanna Kimmel punched her ticket to state in the 100 meter dash by taking fourth in the time of 12.76.
The final group to qualify for state was the boys 4x400 meter relay team of Zane Barnes, Brandon Magee, Jayce Pond and Nathan Lyle, who finished third in the time of 3:28.73.
Several more Covington athletes performed well at the regional meet, but came up short of state.

In the 4x200 meter relay, three of the four Lady Buccs were attempting to qualify for state after running at state in the 4x200 as freshman, but it wasn't meant to be. The team of Rayna Horner, Shae Robinson, Tori Lyle and Breanna Kimmel finished seventh with a time of 1:50.24.
Zach Parrett finished seventh in the high jump with a height of 6'1".
The girls 4x800 meter relay finished eight in the time of 9:52.39.
