MAY 11, 2013 - COVINGTON
On a cold, damp, windy day that felt more like the month of March than May, both the Covington boys and girls track teams overcame the elements and stiff competition to claim championships in the Covington Invitational on Saturday.
The girls, competing with just 13 participants, managed to squeak by co-runner-ups Russia and Fort Loramie by two points. Covington finished with 115 team points, while Russia and Fort Loramie tallied 113.
Leading the way for the Lady Buccs was junior Jackie Siefring, who set a new meet record in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 15.45. Siefring also won the 300 meter hurdles (46.16), the 200 meter dash (26.69) and the long jump (16-00.00).
Freshman Carly Shell claimed Covington's final individual title by winning the 3200 meter run in the time of 11:43.40. Shell also placed third in the 1600 meter run (5:28.94).
Tara Snipes finished with two second place performances in the 800 (2:33.73) and the 1600 meter run (5:19.99).
Jenna Rindler placed runner-up in the shot (30-11) and discuss (108-11), while the 4x800 meter relay team of Snipes, Shell, Julianna Yingst and Briana Grilliot took second in a time of 10:50.20.
