The Covington boys track team wasn't at full strength due to injuries to key performers, but that didn't stop the Buccs from putting together a solid performance at the Tipp Relays on Saturday.
Covington finished 7th with 36 team points, while competing against many larger schools like Wayne, Dayton Dunbar and others.
The Buccs' shot and discuss teams had outstanding showings, finishing second as a team in the shot and second as a team in the discuss. In the shot put, Sam Christian led the Buccs with a 46-07.25, while Cole Owens threw for 41-05.00 and Alex Baskerville tossed a 36-05.00.
Christian also led the Buccs in the discuss, throwing 142-00, while Owens threw for 126-00 and Matt Reck went for a distance of 106-11.
The Buccs took fourth in the 4x100 Ironman Relay with a time of 54.70. The event consisted of only shot and discuss throwers as Alex Baskerville, Cole Owens, Matt Reck and Sam Christian competed in the event.
Covington's 4x100 meter shuttle hurdle team of Troy Cron, Trent Tobias, Dalton Bordelon and Ben Miller came in fifth in a time of 1:04.86.
Both the boys sprint medley and 4x200 meter relay teams came in seventh for the Buccs. Troy Cron, Seth Canan, Dalton Bordelon and Isaiah Winston finished the sprint medley in 1:46.37, while Cron, Winston and Bordelon teamed with Ben Miller in the 4x200 to finish in 1:39.10.
The boys middle distance medley finished ninth despite competing without two of its top runners. Still, Robert Gengler, Sam Earick, Nathan Dunn and Lane White recorded a 7:08.55.
The Covington girls team competed in the Lady Tigers Classic in Versailles on Saturday and came away with a seventh place finish in the Orange Division with 43 team points.
Tara Snipes had a big day, taking first in the 1600 meter run (5:47.63) and third in the 800 meter run (2:32.80).
Haleigh Murphy also claimed a championship in the shot put, throwing for a distance of 32-06.75, while Jenna Rindler came in third with a distance of 28-10.75. Rindler also took second in the discuss (93-09) and Murphy placed fifth (83-09).
Shianne Fortner took sixth in the 100 meter dash with a time of 14:35 and seventh in the 200 meter dash in a time of 30.27.
Anna Snyder placed seventh in the pole vault (7-00.00), while Sadie Canan came in seventh in the 300 meter hurdles (65.43) and Ayla Alexander placed eighth in the long jump (12-01.00).
The 4x200 meter delay team took fifth with a time of 2:07.46, while the 4x100 meter relay team came in sixth in a time of 58.75 and the 4x400 meter relay team place fifth in a time of 4:58.92.
