The Covington boys and girls track teams put together impressive performances in a quad meet at Milton High School against the host Bulldogs, Bethel and Valley View.
The boys took first with 76 points, while the girls came in second behind Valley View with 51 points.
For the boys, Sam Christian was dominant in the shot and discuss, claiming first in both events. Christian threw for 137'11" in the discuss and 46'8" in the shot, impressive numbers considering the shoulder injury he has been rehabilitating since football season.
Sophomore Troy Cron also had a big day by taking first in both the 100 and 300 meter hurdles. Cron won the 100 in 16.9 and the 300 in 45.5.
Freshman Lane White shined in the 800 meter run, winning the event by a good three seconds in a time of 2:09.6.
Three Buccaneer relay teams put together impressive showings. The 4x100 team of Jake Bitner, AJ Ouellette, Isaiah Winston and Alex Baskerville won in the time of 46.6, the 4x400 team of Bitner, Trent Tobias, Winton and Baskerville took first in the time of 3:46.3 and the 4x800 team of Kody Spade, Lane White, Zach Shilt and Dustin Fickert breezed to a win in the time of 8:50.6.
The 4x200 team of Bitner, Tobias, Winston and Baskerville were well on their way to victory, but were disqualified by crossing the lane boundaries.
Taking second for the Buccs were Trent Tobias in the pole vault (9'6") and freshman Dalton Bordelon in the 300 meter hurdles (47.0).
Several Buccaneers finished third, including Troy Cron in the long jump (17'1/4"), freshman AJ Ouellette in the 100 meter run (11.7) and the 200 meter run (23.9), as well as Kody Spade in the 100 meter hurdles (19.7) and the 300 meter hurdles (47.3).
The girls were led by Tara Snipes, who won the 400 meter run in 1:08.1 and the 4x800 meter relay team of Snipes, Hannah Retz, Emily Fields and Kayleigh Cecil who captured first in the time of 11:19.2.
Taking second for the girls were Josselyn Tobias in the long jump (14'0"), the 100 meter hurdles (18.4) and the 300 meter hurdles (56.1), as well as the 4x100 meter relay team of Rachel Carder, Briana Grilliot, Jenna Rindler and Haleigh Murphy (59.0) and the 4x400 meter relay team of Snipes, Retz, Anna Snyder, and Fields (5:06.8).
Jenna Rindler took third in the discuss (91'7"), while Snipes finished third in the 800 meter run (2:48.0) and the 4x200 meter relay team of Carder, Snyder, Raquel Brant and Bethany Richards also took third in the time of 2:11.2.
