|2011 COVINGTON BUCCS BOYS TRACK TEAM...
A larger roster, bursting with potential and promise, has our whole coaching staff and athletes eagerly awaiting the start of the 2011 track and field season. We are really excited about the quantity of athletes we have this year. We know with the quantity we have the quality of athletes is also going up, which means we have our sights on pushing the program toward greater success this year.
Throwers: We have a strong group of scorers back from last years team that finished 5th in our league. One of those scorers will be Junior Sam Christian, who finished 4th in both the shot and discus at league last year behind a strong group of seniors. Sam had a tremendous sophomore season and is really focused on improving this year for greater success. Joining Sam and looking to fill the spot left by his brother Ben who qualified for state last season are Sophomores Matt Reck, John Longenecker, Juniors Brandon Powell and Cody Minnich and Freshman Jordan Wolfe, Noah Weer, and Isaac Schaefer.
Distance: After winning a league title and qualifying for state as a team in cross country, the distance crew will be looking to build on their fall success. Leading the way will be the Buccs most valuable runner from the last couple of seasons Senior Willy Hoffert. Willy has really worked hard this year and is going to give everything he has to reach his goals this season. Joining Hoffert is fellow Seniors Zach Shilt and Brandon Flora, sophomores, Dustin Fickert, Bryant Hicks, Dale Brant and Freshmen Lane White, Nick Tobias, Riley VanHise, and Dustin Freeman.
Sprints: Our sprinting events are going to look radically different this year. We have 19 new faces on the team this year and our sprinting events should benefit the most from these newcomers. Tyler Noffsinger will return to lead the sprinters. Tyler won our league in both the 100 and 200 as a sophomore, but was hurt most of his junior year, so he’s really looking to have a great senior year. Also returning from last years team are Seniors Kody Spade (hurdler), and Trey Stewart, Sophomores Tyler McDavid, Triston Yingst, and Trent Tobias our number one pole vaulter. Newcomers that are going to be looking to make an immediate impact this year include: Senior Jake Bitner, Juniors Matt Hicks, Seth Brown, Isaiah Winston, Sophomores Alex Baskerville, Troy Cron, and Gage Looker, Freshmen A.J. Ouellette, Dalton Bordelon, and Alex Fries.
This should be a fun year for Covington Track and Field with this kind of talent, depth, leadership and the commitment that exist, we believe we are poised to make some noise in our league and districts this year.
