COVINGTON - In a neighboring rivalry battled between Covington and Bradford, the Lady Railroaders put forth a dominating performance - routing the Lady Buccs 25-3 in five innings.
For Covington, it was a game where you have to tip your cap to your opponent and find a way to put it behind you because there is a lot of softball to be played. One game doesn’t define a team.
But in this game, it was all Bradford as it took control of the game from the outset thanks to the extremely hot bats of the defending state champions. Bradford rocked Covington with seven home runs in the contest - two each by Remi Harleman and Nylani Beireis and one each by Austy Miller, Zoe Brewer and Rylee Canan.
Bradford opened the game with three runs in the first as Zoe Brewer doubled to score the first run. Brewer was red hot throughout the contest as she doubled in the first, singled in the second and hit a grand slam in the fourth.
The Lady Railroaders plated 8 runs in the second and 10 runs in the third thanks to the powerful swings of Nylani Beireis, Rylee Canan, Alani Canan, Izzy Hamilton and Austy Miller.
Beireis was also impressive in the circle as she limited Covington to just three runs on three hits through three innings of action. Izzy Hamilton entered the game in the fourth and picked up the save.
Covington managed to score 3 runs in the bottom of the third to show a never-quit attitude, but it just wasn’t the Lady Buccs’ night as Bradford had 20 hits in the contest to 5 for Covington. The Lady Buccs committed 7 errors in the field, which is very uncharacteristic of a team who entered the contest with a 12-3 record.
Offensively for Covington, Nigella Reck and Karyanne Turner has two hits each, while Meg Rogers had a hit.
In the circle for Covington, Meg Rogers, Karyanne Turner and Nigella Reck all pitched one and two-third innings each.
