|LADY BUCCS GET GOOD TEST AT CENTERVILLE...
The Covington Lady Buccs dropped two games at Centerville in a double-header, but were able to try some things that will make them a better team.

Not many people would consider it a good day when your team loses two straight games on the same day. But those people are not Dean Denlinger, a man who has a complete understanding of the level of softball his team needs to play to accomplish the goals that lie ahead.
"This was a good weekend for us," said Denlinger after his team fell to Fairborn 4-1 and Centerville 3-1 on Saturday. "We tried some different things to give us a look on how they would work. These two games were good for us."
That's because Covington faces two conference teams on back-to-back nights that will likely determine the conference championship. Monday the Lady Buccs host Twin Valley South and then Tuesday it's Newton, two teams ranked in the state.
"This is why we play teams like Fairborn and Centerville," Denlinger said. "We want to be tested against the best competition we can find because you know teams like Newton are out there playing a tough schedule too."
Two reasons Denlinger was pleased with the weekend was the fact that his team hit the ball well and he found mistakes the Lady Buccs can work on in preparation for the upcoming games.
"We had 16 hits today against two really good teams," he said. "We did make a couple of mistakes on the bases that we can work on, but we hit the ball well."
Covington racked up eight hits in the opener against Fairborn, but was only able to convert them into one run.
In the second game against Centerville, Covington again managed eight hits and scored one run.
"That's where our mistakes on the bases hurt us," he said. "But, you know, we were trying some things and that had a lot to do with it."
Chloe Shell went the distance on the mound in the first game against Fairborn, while Aubrye Cain and Cassie Yingst put together a combined effort against Centerville.
"I liked what I saw from our pitching and our defense," said Denlinger. "We did commit the two errors against Centerville, but that's the first game in a long while we've committed any errors. Unfortunately those two errors resulted in two unearned runs."
The two defeats drop Covington's record to 17-3 overall after the Lady Buccs opened the season with 14 straight wins.
But Denlinger isn't concerned with records.
"We don't look at that (records)," he confirmed. "Of course, you would like to win every game, but the thing for us is trying to get to where we want to be come tournament time. I like where we are right right now. Yes, we have work to do, but we know where we stand."
