Covington High School held its commencement ceremony for the Class of 2017 at Hobart Arena in Troy on Sunday as family and friends joined the graduates to celebrate their final accomplishments as high school students.
In a rare milestone, there were five Valedictorians in the class as Nathan Blei, Emily Cordonnier, Anna Dunn, Adam Lefeld and Savanna Schaurer each gave inspiring speeches during the ceremony.
The Class of 2016 consisted of 58 graduates and 10 received Honors Diplomas: Natha, Blei, Emily Cordonnier, Anna Dunn, Jenna Hagan, Adam Lefeld, Anne Randall, Sarah Retz, Savanna Schaurer, Jesse Wall and Rachel York. Six graduates also received Academic Excellence Awards with a 3.9 GPA or higher; Nathan Blei, Emily Cordonnier, Anna Dunn, Adam Lefeld, Sarah Retz and Savanna Schaurer.
Seven departmental awards were earned: Anna Dunn (English), Adam Lefeld (Mathematic), Nathan Blei (Science), Adam Lefeld (Social Studies), Adam Lefeld (Foreign Language) and Zane Barnes (Business/Technolgy).
Class officers consisted of:
President - Kara Schaffer
Vice President - Adam Lefeld
Secretary - Savanna Schaurer
Treasurer - Josh Sowers
