A lot of personal best times fell at the Miami County Meet in West Milton as the girls finished 5th and the boys took 6th.

The Covington Girl's cross country team placed 5th as Ashley Diltz keeps pushing her name higher in the school record book.

"Ashley ran a tremendous race," said Covington coach Libby Long. "Her time earned her a place in the top five 'fastest girls cross country list' for Covington. She ran 23 seconds faster than her previous personal best."

Diltz wasn't the only runner to have a big day.

"Emily (Fields) continues to finish in the top 25 of each race consistently," Long said. "Carrie (Spurgeon) had a personal best today. She is learning how to push herself in the races. Raquel (Brant) also ran a great race. She had an awesome finish to improve her personal best by 40 seconds. Tara (McNutt) ran another great race for us today. Alyssa, Ashley and Sarah all ran great races today."

The 5th place finish as a team made Long proud.

"It was a great day for the girls to race," she said. "We had six girls who had a personal best today. I am very proud of the girls."

Those running personal bests were Levi VanDeGrift, Willy Hoffert, Andy Hittle and Brandon Flora.

VanDeGrift was impressive with a 12th place finish in 17:41, a time a Covington runners hasn't seen in a while.

"Levi continues to improve every race," Long said. "He is the first boy in four years to run in the 17's."

Hoffert, Hittle and Flora each shaved a lot time off their previous personal best.

"Willy (Hoffert) improved his personal best 22 seconds," Long explained. "Andy (Hittle) ran a really smart race today. He ran 20 seconds faster than his previous personal best. Brandon (Flora) ran 15 seconds faster than his personal best."

Not lost in the shuffle is the steady performance of Curtis Dysinger and the rest of the team.

"Curtis is consistent," said Long. "He is normally running in the low 18's. The rest of the boys contine to steadily improve each race. They boys are really believing in themselves and gaining confidence with each race."
