COVINGTON – The Covington Buccaneers had complete control of the game against Troy Christian for four innings, but surrendered a 3-0 lead by giving up four runs in the final three innings.

The Buccs scored two runs in the first and another in the third to take a 3-0 lead.

The first run was scored by Tyler Jay scored when Carter Owens reached on an error and then Jacob Tipps dropped down a bunt to score Brairen Denson.

The run that was scored for the Buccs in the third came on an RBI single by Grant Blore that scored Tanner Palsgrove.

Unfortunately the Buccaneers couldn’t put any more runs on the board as they left eight runners stranded.

Credit to Troy Christian, it was able to battle back to take the momentum by scoring two runs in the fourth, one in the sixth and another run in the top of the seventh.

The Buccaneers had the tying run on second with one out in the bottom of the seventh, but grounded out on back-to-back swings to end the game.

Covington racked up six hits and didn’t commit any errors in the game, while Troy Christian had nine hits and two errors.

Tyler Jay threw well on the hill despite picking up the loss. He went six and two-thirds on the mound and Carson Taylor entered the game to record the final out in the top of the seventh.

The Buccs fall to 1-1 overall and 0-1 in the TRC. The Buccs play Cedarville at Wright State University tomorrow.
