BUCCS AND LADY BUCCS FINISH RUNNER-UP IN TRC

COVINGTON – The Covington boys and girls cross country teams finished second in the TRC to Milton-Union, which won both races at the Covington Fraternal Order of Eagles Picnic Grounds in Covington.

The Lady Buccs came so close to winning the league title, but fell short to Milton-Union by one point. Covington finished with 48 places, while Milton-Union finished with 47.

Overall, the top five combined times for Covington were the best in the league with 1:52:13.3, while Milton-Union’s times were 1:52:16.3.

Johanna Welborn led Covington by taking third place finish with a time of 20:41.4 and Elyza Long, who is battling through an injury, finished fourth with a time of 21:15.5. Cassidy Turner finished tenth in the time of 22:52.7 and Lucy Welborn finished twelfth with the time of 23:04.7. The fifth highest finisher for Covington was Bella Welch, who placed nineteenth with a time of 24:18.7.

Milton-Union won the boys race with 28 places and the Buccs finished with 51.

Asher Long won the individual league title by dominating the race with a time of 16:10.5, which was over one minute faster than the next runner. The time Long put forth was phenomenal considering the horrendous weather the course had suffered over the last twelve hours.

Tanner Palsgrove finished ninth with a time of 18:06.5; Caleb Ryman was twelfth with a time of 18:16.0; Chris Deaton was thirteenth with a time of 18:17.0; and Preston King finished sixteenth with a time of 18:28.9 to round up the top five finishers for the Buccs.

Next Saturday the Buccaneers will compete in the district tournament at Cedarville.
