LADY BUCCS GET FIRST WIN OF SEASON OVER BETHEL...
When you start the season against a murderer’s row of a schedule against the likes of Russia, Brookville, Anna and the defending state champions in Versailles, you hope your team comes away battle tested and greatly improved despite the adversity.
And Covington came away a much better team due to the learning experienced it received against four great programs and it showed on Thursday as the Lady Buccs opened up the CCC season at Bethel with an impressive win in three sets. Covington defeated the Bees 25-20, 25-10, 25-10.
The Covington JV squad also won 25-15, 25-23. Both teams are now 1-0 in league and 1-4 overall.

COACH CAIN’S COMMENTS:
“We finally played an aggressive, enthusiastic match tonight at Bethel. The girls were fired up and wanted to start the CCC off on the right foot and avenge last seasons home loss to the Bees. The tough early season losses to Russia, Brookville, Anna and Versailles have forced us to continue to improve our game and I am seeing the improvement.”
Covington will host league rival Ansonia next Tuesday.
COVINGTON FALLS TO DEFENDING STATE CHAMPS...
Covington hosted the Versailles Tigers in a non-league contest Tuesday evening. The Defending State Champion Tigers defeated Covington 6-25, 11-25, 12-25.
Covington JV were defeated 14-25, 21-25. Covington Varsity and JV both drop to 0-4 on the season and begin league play on Thursday at Bethel.
COACH CAIN’S COMMENTS:
”Versailles is the best team we have played so far this season. The Tigers’ height and athletic abilities carried them through out the night. In an attempt to get Versailles out of system we were serving very aggressive and trying to hit shots, which led to an uncharacteristic high number of missed serves and hitting errors. We travel to Bethel this Thursday for our first CCC match and I am hoping our stiff early season non-league schedule has helped us prepare for the CCC."
