LADY BUCCS WIN THIRD STRAIGHT...
The Covington Lady Buccs defeated Tri-County North in four sets to extend their winning streak to three games and even their record in Cross County Conference play to 5-5.

Tuesday, October 3, 2018 - Covington
The meat grinder of a schedule - where Covington played a murderer's row of non-conference games - is starting to play dividends as the Lady Buccs have now won three in a row and five of their last eight matches.

And a sign of a much improved team is when it can find a way to win ugly - when you are not playing your best volleyball.

Win ugly Covington did on Tuesday as it was extended to four sets due to a lackluster third set against a gritty Tri-County North team.

"Ugly win, but a win none the less," said Covington coach Lonnie Cain. "I felt we were in control throughout the match, we just didn't terminate."

Covington broke open a close early set to take a 25-19 win and then controlled the second set 25-18.

But mental mistakes and lackadaisical play allowed Tri-County North to get back into the match with a 25-19 win in the third set.

"We had a number of hitting miscues and communication lapses during set three," Cain explained.

Fortunately the Lady Buccs were able to do just enough in the fourth set for a 25-21 win and prevent the contest from going to a fifth set.

The winning streak boosts Covington's record to 7-11 overall and 5-5 in the CCC, but a much better performance on Thursday.

"Thursday night we host a good Brookville team," state Cain. "We will be working hard on correcting those mistakes prior to Thursday."
