AUGUST 18, 2018 - COVINGTON
The Covington Lady Buccs opened the season against traditional Shelby County League power Russia and came up short in a three-set contest by the scores of 13-25, 5-25 and 8-25.

Sophomore Alyssa Kimmel led the way offensively with 4 kills and also had 3 digs.

Lillian Hamilton recorded 2 kills, while freshman Mackenzie Maschino had 3 assists and 1 ace. Ellery Reck also dished out 5 assists, while Maci White had 9 digs.

"It's a tough way to begin our season and it doesn't get an easier," said Covington coach Lonnie Cain. "We travel to defending State Champion Versailles and then to Regional Qualifier Anna. We fill our non-league with the best competition around hoping that it will prepare us for CCC matches and the post season tournament. We need to keep fighting for points and continue improving our serve reception."

Covington JV squad was defeated 19-25, 26-24, 20-25.

AUGUST 23, 2018 - VERSAILLES
Covington traveled to Versailles for a match against the defending State D-III Champions. The junior varsity squad lost 8-25 and 8-25, while the varsity lost 9-25, 10-25 and 9-25.

"We worked a great deal on our serve receive this past week after the Russia match and it showed," said Covington coach Lonnie Cain. "We were getting the ball to our setters but we found it very difficult to score against their big front line and very quick back court defense. Versailles is a very good team again this season."

Statistical leaders were as follows:
Lillian Hamilton - 3 kills
Olivia Mohler - 3 kills
Alyssa Kimmel - 1 block, 6 digs and 2 kills
Ellery Reck - 8 assists
Makenzee Maschino - 2 assists, 3 digs
Maci White - 1 ace, 3 digs
Makenna Gostomsky - 4 digs

Covington falls to 0-2 on the season and Versailles improves to 4-1. The Lady Buccs travel to Anna on Monday for another non-league match-up.

AUGUST 27, 2018 - ANNA
Covington completed their early season gauntlet with a trip to Anna. The junior varsity team was defeated 11-25, 7-25, while the varsity came up short 10-25, 17-25, 7-25.

"Tonight we played well in spurts but we were plagued again with a number of unforced errors," said Covington coach Lonnie Cain. "Once we improve our confidence our consistency will also improve. I am looking forward to beginning Cross County Conference play on Thursday at home versus Bethel."

Statistical leaders were as follows:
Makenna Gostomsky - 2 aces, 3 kills and 5 digs
Maci White - 3 aces and 5 digs
Olivia Mohler - 2 kills and 1 block
Lillian Hamilton - 1 kill and 1 block

Covington (0-3) hosts Bethel on Thursday.
