The Covington Lady Buccs opened the new gymnasium in style on Tuesday, sweeping Bethel in three straight sets, 25-11, 25-20, 25-23.
"Our first set was nearly flawless - great defense, aggressive serving and smart attacking," said Covington coach Lonnie Cain. "Everyone was involved in the First Win on the Buccs new home court."
Legend Patty had 10 kills, 4 digs and 1 ace, while Rachel York had 8 kills, 15 digs and 5 aces to lead the charge.
Also, Breanna Kimmel had 7 kills and Lili Hamilton 6 kills.
Bre Dieperink recorded 27 assists, 3 kills, 6 digs and 1 ace and Ashley Cecil had 13 digs.
"I was very happy with the way Bre Dieperink spread out our offense, we had nice contributions from our left, right and middle attackers," said Cain.
Covington got out to a strong start in the opening set, causing to a 25-11 win.
From there, Bethel made Covington earn it as the Lady Buccs had to come from behind to win the second set 25-20 and then escaped with a 25-23 win in the third set.
"Lindsey Kimmel and Taylor Ray came off the bench and provided some aggressive serving and played good defense," Cain explained. "There is still work to be done and we are progressing."
Covington JV defeated Bethel 25-18, 25-23 to capture their first win of the young season and the Covington Junior High Volleyball teams were recognized and applauded for their straight set wins over the Bethel Bees the previous night.
The Buccs are 1-1 CCC and 1-3 overall. Covington travels to Ansonia on Thursday night - first JV serve at 5:30.
