YORK LEADS LADY BUCCS TO EMOTIONAL WIN...
Playing with a heavy heart, Rachel York led the Covington Lady Buccs to an emotional three-set victory over Tri-Village on Thursday.

SEPTEMBER 8, 2015 - NEW MADISON
It was an emotional night for the Covington Lady Buccs as they traveled to Tri-Village on Tuesday for another critical Cross County Conference matchup.

And playing with a heavy heart, junior Rachel York led the way with an inspirational performance on the floor. York recorded 13 kills, 6 digs and 2 aces in leading the Lady Buccs to a three-set sweep of Tri-Village by the scores of 25-22, 25-17 and 25-16.

"We were dealing with a lot of emotions on the floor," said Covington coach Lonnie Cain. "But I feel the girls played well and channeled those emotions into a lot of positives."

Aggressive serving was a big key for Covington as it recorded 13 aces on the night - four from junior Savannah Schaurer.

"We were very aggressive from the service line and it paid off," said Cain of the 13 aces. "Plus, we are beginning to see the floor better and cutting down on our hitting errors."

York was Covington's big hitter for the night, but she received plenty of help from Brooke Gostomsky. The senior tallied 8 kills, 6 digs and 1 ace.

Arianna Richards recorded 18 assists and 2 aces, while Ashley Cecil had 9 digs.

"Our defense played better as a whole and will continue to improve," Cain said.

The win boosts Covington's record to 2-5 on the season and 2-0 in the CCC.

In junior varsity action, the Lady Buccs defeated Tri-Village 25-16 and 25-13, while the freshman fell to Versailles by the scores of 9-25 and 11-25.

Covington is back in action on Thursday as it hosts rival Newton.

Rachel York played inspired volleyball under difficult circumstances.
