LADY BUCCS SWEEP TRI-VILLAGE IN TOURNAMENT...
The Covington Lady Buccs advanced to the sectional final with a three-game sweep of Tri-Village.

OCTOBER 16, 2012 - PIQUA
The Covington volleyball team advanced to the sectional final with a three-game sweep of Tri-Village on Tuesday by the scores of 26-24, 25-12, 27-25.

The Lady Buccs will play Southeastern in a rematch of last year's sectional final in which Covington was knocked off by the Trojans in four very close games.

And things were close Tuesday as the sixth-seeded Patriots jumped out to a 7-2 lead in the first game before Covington, seeded tenth, battled back to take a 22-18 lead to force a Tri-Village timeout.

Covington then killed itself with hitting errors and Tri-Village took advantage by tying the score at 24-24.

A kill by freshman Erin Olson gave Covington a huge point to regain the momentum and Jessica Dammeyer served the final point to take the critical first game, 26-24.

Covington followed by dominating the second game as Tri-Village began making uncharacteristic mistakes. The result was a 25-12 victory for Covington and a two-games-to-zero lead in the match.

Looking to seal things in the third game, Covington once again became its own worst enemy with hitting errors. Tri-Village took advantage by taking an 18-14 lead and appeared to take control of the momentum.

But like it had done in the first game, Covington gradually battled its way back by playing scrappy volleyball at the defensive end - extending volleys and eventually capturing points.

By game's end, Covington had knotted the score at 24-24 to put the pressure on Tri-Village. More mistakes by the the Patriots followed and Covington sealed the match with an ace by Jenna Rindler.

The Lady Buccs, now 11-11 on the season, were led by Jessica Dammeyer with 26 digs, Shelby Waag with 26 assists and Zoe Reck with 12 kills.

Jenna Rindler had a great night at the service line with eight aces.

Covington moves on o face Southeastern on Saturday at Piqua High School with a sectional championship on the line.
