DIGGIN' A WIN IN THE HOME OPENER...
The Covington Lady Buccs used a scrappy defense and a balanced effort at the net to sweep Tri-Village in three games.

AUGUST 30, 2012 - COVINGTON
The Covington Lady Buccs rebounded from a lackluster effort in the season opener against Fairlawn with an impressive win over Tri-Village on Thursday.

"Much better," said a pleased Covington coach Ashley Miller. "We were a completely different team tonight than we were earlier in the week."

And it showed on the scoreboard as Covington won all three games by the scores of 25-21, 25-20 and 26-24.

"Our defense was great," Miller continued. "Our blocking was better and we were more aggressive hitting the ball."

Anna Snyder led Covington with 14 kills, while Jenna Rindler had 10 kills and freshman Brooke Gostomsky recorded 8 kills.

Senior Shelby Wagg had 31 assists and Jessica Dammeyer had a monster night with 32 digs.

"The good thing is everybody contributed," said Miller. "It wasn't just one or two people. It was a complete team effort."

Which was needed as Covington dug itself into a hole in all three games.

"For some reason we start slow," Miller explained. "But we keep getting better every day in practice and it shows. We still have a ways to go."

The win evens Covington's record a 1-1 on the young season and 1-0 in the CCC.

Next up is a battle with neighboring rival Newton on the road.
