COVINGTON BEATS RIVAL BRADFORD...
The Covington Lady Buccs remained unbeaten in CCC play with a three-game sweep of rival Bradford.

SEPTEMBER 13, 2012 - COVINGTON
It wasn't the most inspiring effort, but Covington did enough to remain unbeaten in the CCC at 5-0 with a three-game sweep over rival Bradford on Thursday.

"It wasn't pretty, but it's a good win over a CCC opponent," said Covington coach Ashley Miller. "We had a lot of hitting errors tonight and that's something we've been working on."

Still, Covington was able to overcome its mistakes with aggressive serving and solid defense.

"We served aggressively tonight and that was a key," Miller explained. "We missed on a few, but overall our serving was pretty strong."

And it set the tone early as sophomore Jessica Dammeyer served nine straight Covington points to give the Lady Buccs a 12-3 lead in the first game.

From there, Covington's defense took over as the Lady Buccs took the first game 25-14.

"It was good that we came out strong early," Miller said.

That's because Bradford responded in the second game by taking a 12-7 lead to force a Covington timeout.

With a chance to regroup, the Lady Buccs outscored Bradford 18-8 to take the second game 25-20 and then closed the show with a 25-18 win in the third game.

The win improves Covington to 5-2 overall and 5-0 in the CCC. The Lady Buccs travel to Anna on Saturday.
