|LADY BUCCS FALL TO VERSAILLES...
Covington hung close in all three games, but couldn't find the momentum it needed and dropped the match to Versailles.
OCTOBER 3, 2011 - COVINGTON
The Covington Lady Buccs hung right with Versailles in all three games Monday, but couldn't get the points they needed late in the games to capture wins.
And the result was a three-game defeat at the hands of the Tigers, 24-26, 21-25 and 22-25.
The first game was back-and-forth throughout and Covington appeared to be forging ahead late in the contest with a 22-20 lead. But Versailles tied the score at 22-22 and eventually squeaked by with a 26-24 win.
The trend continued in the second game as each team took turns with the momentum. But once again Versailles captured the big points down the stretch to take a 25-21 win.
Trailing two games to zero, the wheels fell off on Covington early in the third game as Versailles took an 11-2 lead - forcing a Buccaneer timeout to regroup.
The Lady Tigers maintained a comfortable lead at 22-13, but Covington rallied to close the gap to 23-20 with unpredictable serving of Caitlyn Crawford and passionate defense by the Lady Buccs.
Versailles ended the run with a kill, but Covington returned the favor to make the score 24-21 with the Lady Buccs holding serve.
But that would be the final highlight for Covington as Versailles recorded the final point to close out the match with a three-game sweep.
Covington was led by Crawford with 15 kills and nine digs, while Shelby Wagg recorded 21 assists.
The Lady Buccs look to rebound at Bethel on Thursday.
