|A WIN, BUT NOT 110% EFFORT...
The Covington Lady Buccs beat Franklin Monroe in three games, but it wasn't the effort Covington was looking for.
SEPTEMBER 8, 2011 - COVINGTON
The Covington Lady Buccs improved to 4-0 with a three-game sweep of Franklin Monroe on Thursday, but it's obvious coach Lindsey Sullenberger is not very content with the way her team is playing.
That's because the Lady Buccs put forth a complacent effort against Franklin Monroe, even after coming off an inspiring effort at Mississinawa Valley on Tuesday.
"We need to understand that we need to get better every game we play," said Sullenberger. "We need to give 110% every time we play, no matter who we play and we're not doing that."
Which was evident after Covington allowed Franklin Monroe to jump out to a 4-2 lead in the first game before rallying to take a 25-15 win.
Then, in the second game, Covington made mental mistake after mental mistake and had to hold on for a 25-23 win.
"In the first two games tonight we played like we were comfortable," Sullenberger explained. "When we do that we give teams hope. Instead of putting the pressure on them by taking it to them, we let them hang around. It's frustrating."
Sullenberger expressed her displeasure to the kids prior to the third and deciding game and the Lady Buccs responded with a dominating performance and a 25-8 win.
"That's the way we need to play," said Sullenberger of the third game. "We picked it up and played the way we are capable of."
For Covington, Caitlyn Crawford and Shelby Kihm combined for 32 kills, while Zoe Reck has 15 digs and Shelby Waag recorded 37 assists.
Covington hosts Russia on Tuesday, a contest that concerns Sullenberger due to the inconsistency of her team.
"That's a big game (against Russia) and if we play the way we did tonight, we'll get beat," she said.
The Lady Buccs will take a 4-0 record (3-0 in the CCC) into the game.
JV RESULTS: Covington lost to Franklin Monroe in three games; 25-20, 16-25, 19-25.
