TAKIN' CARE OF BUSINESS...
The Covington Lady Buccs took care of Bradford in three games to rebound from their first loss of the season.

SEPTEMBER 13, 2011 - BRADFORD
Monday's loss to Russia left a bad taste for Covington and it responded with a dominant performance over rival Bradford on Tuesday.

"We played more consistent tonight, which was good to see," said Covington coach Lindsey Sullenberger. "We got on top of them early and kept them down."

Covington started the contest by taking a 10-2 lead in the first game as Bradford had difficulty stopping Caitlyn Crawford at the net.

"They (Bradford) had a hard time stopping our offense," Sullenberger explained. "We were running some quick sets and it kept them off balance."

With all of the momentum from the outset, Covington was able to cruise to 25-13 win in game one.

But Bradford showed its competitive desire in game two by jumping out to a 4-2 lead. Covington quickly recovered and eventually took a 25-12 win.

Which gave Sullenberger an opportunity to try a different lineup in the third game.

"We have a lot of games this week, so I wanted to try some different rotations," Sullenberger said. "Jenna (Rindler) came in and stepped up tonight. She's done a nice job of coming in and playing well when her name is called and she did that again tonight."

Another player who had an impact was freshman Jessica Dammeyer.

"J.D. (Dammeyer), we put her in a libero jersey and it was good to get her in and give some of the other kids a rest," continued Sullenberger. "Obviously, it's a different pace from reserve to varsity, but J.D. did a nice job."

In the end, Sullenberger liked what she saw in the final game as her team didn't miss a beat and took the match with a 25-12 win.

"I'm happy that we didn't get complacent," she said. "We kept the pressure on and that's what good teams do."

Crawford led Covington with 16 kills, while Shelby Waag recorded 28 assists and Zoe Reck had 13 digs.

Covington improves to 5-1 overall and 4-0 on the CCC. The Lady Buccs host Arcanum on Thursday, while Bradford travels to Bethel the same night.

JV RESULT: Covington beat Bradford in two games; 25-19, 25-20.

FRESHMAN RESULT: Bradford beat Covington in two games; 25-14, 25-21.

Caitlyn Crawford was hard to handle for the Bradford defense.
