ELIMINATING ERRORS IN WIN OVER MILTON...
The Covington Lady Buccs played error-free volleyball and the result was a dominating performance against Milton.

September 21, 2009 - COVINGTON
The Covington Lady Buccs rebounded from their first loss of the season on Saturday to New Bremen by defeating Milton-Union in three games, Monday.

Covington was dominant throughout, winning by the scores of 25-14, 25-18 and 25-10.

"The thing I was looking at was how we played in the third game tonight," said Covington coach Jim Smith. "We have been inconsistent in matches and I was pleased to see that we were more consistent from start to finish tonight."

Inconsistency is what cost Covington its first loss on Saturday.

"Errors hurt us over the weekend," Smith explained. "We beat Anna in two games, but we made a lot of mistakes in the second game. That carried over to the two games against New Bremen, where we just killed ourselves with errors. We ended up losing 26-24 and 25-21 and I feel it was because of our own errors."

The errors were minimized against Milton and it showed in the scores of all three games of the match.

"Our hitting was better because our passing was a lot better," said Smith. "We only had two serve-receive errors tonight, so that's a great improvement."

Alyssa Angle had a big night setting up the hitters with 30 assists, while Caitlyn Crawford and Emily Henry led the way with 10 kills a piece.

Halley Reames had six kills, while Josselyn Tobias had four kills and 10 digs.

Also, Rachel Rindler recorded 17 digs and Shelby Waag had three aces.

It all led to the ninth victory of the season for Covington in ten matches and sets up a huge Cross County Conference showdown with Tri-County North tomorrow night.

The two teams are the only remaining teams with unblemished league records and each team fields an identical 9-1 record.

"This (playing at Tri-County North) is going to be our biggest game of the season to this point," said Smith. "The winner of this match will be alone at the top (of the standings)."

And for Covington to be that team it has to minimize the errors.

Halley Reames and the Covington hitters pounded the ball against Milton.
