The Covington Lady Buccs recorded their sixth straight win of the season with a three-game sweep of Arcanum on Tuesday. The victory keeps Covington's unbeaten record in tact and improves the conference record to 4-0.
"We controlled the match pretty much from start to finish," said Covington coach Jim Smith after his team won by the scores of 25-13, 25-13 and 25-11. "We hit the ball hard and served pretty well."
But Smith also sees plenty of room for improvement.
"But we just weren't consistent throughout the match," Smith continued. "We gave them some points with some of our mistakes and that's an area we need to work on."
Still, Covington had too much firepower for the visiting Trojans. Rachel Rindler tallied 10 digs, Caitlyn Crawford recorded 10 kills, Alyssa Angle had 19 assists and Josselyn Tobias served eight aces.
Which all came after Arcanum had some early success.
"They (Arcanum) were digging us up early, so we had to shorten things up," Smith explained. "We had the outside hitters hit cross court and they had a hard time handling it."
Another positive for Covington has been the improvement of some of the younger players on the roster.
"We're developing more weapons," said Smith. "The younger kids are coming along and continue to improve. That will help us as we move forward here."
Which will be needed as Covington has some big games on the horizon with Twin Valley South on Thursday and a trip to Anna on Saturday.
"Those are some very big games coming up," Smith agreed. "It's a matter of how consistent we are. We can't give them points like we did tonight."
