| LADY BUCCS TAKE BETHEL IN THREE...
It wasn't easy, but the Covington Lady Buccs managed to get past Bethel in three straight games, 25-21, 25-23 and 28-26.
SEPTEMBER 30, 2008 - COVINGTON
Bethel took Covington to the limit in all three games in Tuesday's Cross County Conference match-up, but the Lady Buccs managed to escape in all three games for the victory.
Covington, who was celebrating "Parent's Night", squeaked by with wins of 25-21, 25-23 and 28-26.
In each of the three games Bethel took early leads only to see Covington come back later on to steal each contest.
The largest deficit of the night Covington faced was in the third game when the Lady Bees surged to a 7-0 lead.
After a timeout, Covington battled back to tie the game at 14-14, but surrendered seven of the next eight points to fall behind 21-16.
Once again, the Lady Buccs tightened up the defense and picked up on aggressive serving. The result was an 8-2 run for match-point with the score 24-23.
But Covington had difficulty closing out the match as the gritty Bethel team scored two straight points to take the lead, 25-24.
With a chance to send the match to a fourth game, Bethel couldn't take advantage of the opportunity. Covington was able to eventually pull out a 28-26 win to seal the match.
The victory keeps Covington in the top of the CCC standings with an 8-1 conference record.
The Lady Buccs travel to Ansonia on Thursday.
