| LADY BUCCS CONTROL OWN DESTINY AFTER WIN...
The Covington Lady Buccs take sole possession of first place in the CCC standings after a three games to zero win over Ansonia.
OCTOBER 2, 2008 - ANSONIA
The Covington Lady Buccs traveled to Ansonia on Thursday for a second straight Cross County Conference contest after a tough three-games against a gritty Bethel team on Tuesday.
Much to the delight of Covington fans, the Lady Buccs walked off the court with sole possession of first place in the league standings with a three games to zero victory over the Lady Tigers.
Still, it wasn't easy as Ansonia gave Covington all it could handle. But it wasn't enough as the visitors came away with victories in all three games by the scores of 25-19, 25-18 and 25-21.
Covington has put itself in excellent position late in the season to stake a claim for the Cross County Conference title. Standing at 9-1 with two conference games left against 5-4 Tri-Village and 2-8 Newton, Covington is control of its own destiny after an early season loss to 8-2 Mississinawa Valley.
But Covington still has to take care of business as three teams are one game behind in the standings. Franklin Monroe, Mississinawa Valley and Tri-County North all hold 8-2 records in the CCC as Tri-County North came up with a big win over Mississinawa in four games.
Before the Lady Buccs get back to CCC play, they'll test themselves against a very talented Jackson Center team on Saturday.
Covington then will face Tri-Village at home on Tuesday and at Newton on Thursday.
Should Covington win those two games they'll claim the CCC title outright.
