|LADY BUCCS FALL IN SECTIONAL FINAL...
For the second straight season the Covington volleyball team ended its season in the Sectional Final at Sidney, but the future looks bright.
OCTOBER 20, 2007 - SIDNEY
Four seniors saw their high school volleyball careers come to an end in the Sectional Finals against Jackson Center, Saturday. The highly ranked Tigers cruised in three games, 25-7, 25-13 and 25-21.
But, if is wasn't for the senior leadership of Erin Christian, Kalie Tobias, Amanda Sprankle and Jessica Snipes, the Lady Buccs would have likely not been in the position for play for a trip to the District Tournament in the first place.
After all, Covington started the season at 1-8 and appeared to be headed for disaster.
Thanks to the four seniors and a determined group of underclassmen, head coach Jim Smith was able to get the team headed in the right direction.
"The girls have always kept a positive attitude," said Smith after Covington's win over Houston to advance to the Sectional Finals. "They've continued working hard."
Covington recorded 10-6 record since the unforgettable 1-8 start. In that span Covington won four straight game and captured two thrilling tournament wins that went five games. In both of those wins the team had to overcome adversity along the way.
Despite finishing at 11-14 after the defeat to Jackson Center, the Lady Buccs have shown promise for the future. The four seniors will be missed, but plenty of talent remains.
If next year's group as the same determination, Covington volleyball should be in for a big year.
