SEPTEMBER 4, 2007 - BRADFORD
After two straight losses to open the season the Covington Lady Buccs needed a win to gain some confidence.
That's what Covington got on Tuesday with a three-game sweep of Bradford, 25-8, 25-20, 25-14.
"It's nice to get our first win," said Covington coach Jim Smith. "It's a relief."
Covington opened the contest by scoring 11 straight points and cruised to a 25-8 victory in game one.
But Bradford gave the Lady Buccs all they could handle in the second game before a late Covington rally salvaged a 25-20 victory.
"We looked really good in the first game," Smith said. "But we changed some things in the second game to get some younger players on the floor. The girls didn't respond well and we struggled a bit."
In spite of the struggles, Covington regrouped in the third game to take a commanding 25-14 win.
"We've been working on some things in practice that I think will help the girls improve," Smith explained. "The kids struggle a little when you change things up, but they're starting to come around. We still need to find someone who can put the ball away on a consistent basis. We'll continue to work at it tomorrow and prepare for Arcanum on Thursday."
Covington (1-2) was led by Alyssa Angle with 12 assists, while Kaylie Tobias recorded 9 assists.
The Lady Buccs host Arcanum on Thursday.
