Sometimes all you can do is bite your tongue and that's what the Lady Buccs had to do after a frustrating evening at Twin Valley South.

SEPTEMBER 12, 2006 – W. ALEXANDRIA
“We certainly didn’t get any breaks,” sighed a disappointed Stephanie Robinson, choosing her words carefully after seeing her Covington Lady Buccs lose their first match of the season in three straight to Twin Valley South Tuesday evening.

“Every time we would get some momentum we'd get a bad break. Our serve/receive was not good, our serving was inconsistent and we just didn’t play well enough.

“It was very frustrating, but you have to put that behind you and just play, just execute.”

South took the first game 19—25, the second 22-25 and the finale, 19-25, to take control of their own destiny and a hoped for second consecutive Cross County Conference title.

“I think we are better than this…that’s just my opinion,” said Robinson, “but our kids have to overcome the emotion and circumstances to play well enough when a title is at stake. And tonight…the league title could have been at stake. We haven’t seen a lot of the other teams in the league, but South was CCC champs a year ago and until someone beats them they’re still the team to beat. We had our chance tonight and didn't get it done.”

The Lady Buccs were not without their bright spots. Alex Christian had a big night hitting with 23 kills, 3 blocks, 15 digs and 5 saves. Michelle Barhorst had 3 blocks, 12 digs, 9 kills and 2 service aces.

“We had 14 shanks on our serve receive,” shrugged a frustrated Robinson. “That’s how poorly we played, and when you don’t serve receive better than that you won't beat many teams.”

The Buccs are back in Cross County Conference action on Thursday, at home against Tri-County North.

“We have to regroup before Thursday, put this match behind us and get back to the business of playing one game at a time…one match at a time.”
