October 12, 2006 – COVINGTON
The Covington Lady Buccs volleyball team closed out the 2006 regular season with a convincing 3 games to 0 victory over Mississinawa Valley, Thursday. This victory gives Covington a 16-6 record overall and 10-2 in the Cross County Conference.

"It's good to finish the regular season strong," said Covington coach Stephanie Robinson. "It's also more important that we have some momentum heading into next week's tournament game at Sidney."

Covington controlled the action throughout, gaining wins by the scores of 25-16, 25-15 and 25-10.

"We played pretty well overall," Robinson said. "Al (Alex Christian) had a big night hitting the ball and Michelle (Barhorst) had some awesome digs."

Christian was as dominant as she has been all year, recording 23 kills, five blocks, six digs and two aces.

"Alex can take over a game when she wants too," Robinson described. "When she is one like she was tonight, she is difficult to stop."

Meredith Tobias was a key contributor in Christian's success with timely and accurate sets. Tobias recorded 39 assists, two kills and three aces.

"Meredith sets everyone up," said Robinson. "She did a very good job of distributing the ball and putting our hitters in position to succeed."

Barhorst also had a big night.

"Michelle was diving all over the court," continued Robinson. "She had some fantastic saves."

The senior also had six kills, eight digs, two blocks and one ace.

With it's second victory in a row heading into the sectional tournament at Sidney, Covington hopes its momentum continues. Even though the next opponent is unknown.

"It's tough to focus when you don't know who the next opponent is," described Robinson. "We have a bye and won't know who we play until the Southeastern - Cedarville game is finished on Saturday. No matter who we play, we'll just have to focus on what we can control and play out best volleyball. If we do that, we'll be fine."

Regardless, Covington will open sectional play at 6:00 pm on Wednesday, October 18th against the winner of the Southeastern vs Cedarville game.
