| LADY BUCCS HAVE SOME FUN...
After an intense weekend the Lady Buccs had some fun with an impressive evening against Milton.
SEPTEMBER 18, 2006 WEST MILTON
After a weekend of playing two intense matches against New Bremen and Anna, the Covington Lady Buccs entered Monday's contest with Milton Union upbeat and confident.
The result was pleasing to coach Stephanie Robinson as Covington dominated all three games by the scores of 25-9, 25-9 and 25-12.
"I'm happy with our mindset right now," said Robinson. "We played well over the weekend and it carried over to tonight. The girls are having fun playing together as a team and it shows on the floor."
The first game was close in the early going with Covington building a slim 7-6 lead when Junior Erin Christian went back to serve. By the time she was done the Lady Buccs had increased its lead to 20-7.
A few moments later Covington finished off the game, 25-9 with a Meredith Tobias ace.
"We served aggressively," Robinson said. "Erin did a nice job in the first game placing her serves and giving them a difficult ball to handle."
Covington would not surrender the momentum as it jumped out to a 12-2 lead in the second game to force a Milton timeout.
"Our hitters took control of the match," said Robinson. "Alex (Christian), Michelle (Barhorst), LauriKate (Bayman) and Ashley (Angle) all did a great job at the net...not only hitting but blocking."
The host Lady Bulldogs never could get back into the match as Covington duplicated its efforts from the first game with a 25-9 victory.
"The girls never let up," described Robinson. "When we had them down, we kept them down. That's what we want."
Covington did what they had to do by ending the match in convincing fashion with a 25-12 victory in the third game.
"Volleyball is a game of momentum and emotion," Robinson continued. "If you let up, the tide can turn in a hurry. We kept the pressure on and put them away when we had them down."
With a long week ahead consisting of five more matches, Robinson utilized the bench in order to keep everyone fresh. Still, Covington never missed a beat.
"It was nice to be able to rotate that many players tonight," Robinson said. "I'm very pleased with how our bench came in and played well."
With the win, Covington improves to 8-2 on the season and hosts National Trail tomorrow night.
