LADY BUCCS BEAT EAST IN THREE...

With a dominant effort on the floor, the Lady Buccs had a chance to rest their legs by freely rotating fresh players.

September 21, 2006 – CASSTOWN
Thursday's Cross County Conference match-up with Miami East was a chance for Covington coach Stephanie Robinson to try different rotations and get the younger girls some playing time. It was also a chance for her to give some rest to starters.

"I really wanted to rotate our entire lineup tonight in order to keep the girls fresh for this weekend," said Robinson after Covington defeated Miami East in three straight games. "We've played a lot of volleyball in the past week and we still have a big tournament coming up at Minster on Saturday."

In order to give the players a rest, Robinson knew her team had to play well and make it a short evening.

"We had to jump on them early and keep the pressure on," continued Robinson. "I did not want to see this go to four or five games. The quicker we could get out of there, the better. Plus, the girls wanted to get home in time to watch Grey's Anatomy."

Covington did just that by dominating the first game 25-7 with primarily the starters on the floor.

"That's what I wanted to see (a quick game)," said Robinson. "If the first game would have been close, I probably would have been more reluctant to rotate like we did."

With the entire roster seeing the floor in the second and third games, Covington never missed a beat by winning both games by the scores of 25-14 and 25-13.

"Our bench is really playing well," Robinson said. "Each one of the girls have great attitudes and know their individual role and how it applies to the team concept. I'm so proud of the way they conduct themselves and the fact that I can rely on them to come in and play well. They get overlooked outside of our internal circle, but our bench players are a vital part of our success."

With three straight impressive wins so far this week, Robinson is optimistic with the Lady Buccs' chances in the Minster Tournament on Saturday.

"This week went the way we had hoped," described Robinson. "Six matches in six days can wear out your legs. We were able to keep everyone fresh by playing quick matches and rotating our entire lineup. Hopefully we go into Minster fresh and ready to play the way we are capable."

With the win over Miami East, Covington improves to 10-2 on the season and 6-1 in the Cross County Conference. Miami East remains winless on the season at 0-11.
