| A REASON TO SMILE...
The Covington Lady Buccs found out they could play with the better teams in the state as they defeated New Bremen and hung tough against Anna.
SEPTEMBER 16, 2006 ANNA
When the 2006 volleyball schedule came out, Covington volleyball coach circled the tri-match with Anna and New Bremen.
Although neither team are conference opponents, Robinson knew this would be an important day.
"I knew this would be the day where we would find out a lot about ourselves," said Robinson in regards to the importance to the tri-match. "I knew we'd be facing two very good teams on the same day. I've been anxious to see how we would respond facing two great teams on the same day. Would we go in there intimidated, or would we play with confidence and a desire to win?"
Robinson got the results she was looking for.
"I think the girls responded very well," continued Robinson. "We came out and played to win and that's what I wanted to see."
Covington opened the day with a 2 games to 1 win over New Bremen by the scores of 25-19, 15-25 and 26-24...a big victory over a team that has beaten the likes of Botkins, Coldwater and SCC.
"I'm proud of how the girls came back strong after a rough second game," Robinson described. "We struggled with our serve receive in the second game, but to come back and win a third and deciding game the way we did was awesome."
Despite falling to the top team in the state in Division III in the second match, Robinson was pleased with how well her girls played against Anna.
"Lets face it, we are not going to see very many teams that are as balanced and athletic as Anna," Robinson said. "Although we lost 25-16 and 25-18, we were not intimidated. The girls played hard and never gave up at any point."
By splitting the two games, Covington's record is now 7-2 overall. The following week will be another test as the Lady Buccs will play six matches in six days.
"We still have some work to do, but we are getting better," concluded Robinson. "We have to keep improving with each match. This next week will give us an opportunity to take our game to another level. We're playing a lot of games in a short period of time. Hopefully he conditioning we went through since August will pay off."
Covington begins its big week on Monday at Milton Union.
