Jett Murphy, the son of Barry and LeAnne Murphy, has already stamped his legacy as one of the premier track and field athletes in Covington High School history with his senior season still on the horizon.
Murphy, a two-time state placer and school record holder in the pole vault, will take his vaulting talents to Youngstown State University next fall to become a part of a highly successful track and field program under coach Brian Gorby and his pole vault coach Rick Penniman.
Currently coach by Kyle Moore at Covington, Murphy placed fourth at state in the pole vault as a sophomore with a then school record vault of 14'8" and then last season as a junior he broke his own school record with a height of 14'10" to place third at state. Murphy has earned several other honors throughout his career at the league, district and regional levels and hopes to earn more hardware this upcoming season as a senior.
Murphy, who holds a 3.126 GPA at Covington, plans on majoring in Exercise Science at Youngstown State.
