BUCCS SWEEP HOME INVITE...
Both Covington boys and girls track teams claimed team championships in the home invitational on Friday, defeating thirteen other schools in front of the hometown fans.

MAY 4, 2018 - COVINGTON
In a home meet against stiff competition from around the area, it was a memorable night for the Covington senior track athletes on Friday as they walked off the track in their final home meet with a clean sweep in the team standings. The boys won the meet with 99 team points to edge Miami East (87.75), while the girls dominated with 122 team points - a good 48 points ahead of runner-up Miami East.

For the girls, Breanna Kimmel won the 100 meter dash in the time of 12.71 and the 200 meter dash in the time of 26.11. She also teamed with Maci White, Tori Lyle and Morgan Lowe to win the 4x100 relay in the time of 51.80 and was a part of the girl’s 4x400 relay team with Tori Lyle, Ashlyn Plessinger and Morgan Lowe to win in the time of 4:17.77.

Rayna Horner had a big day as well by winning the 400 meter dash in the time of 59.79 and teaming with Maci White, Tori Lyle and Morgan Lowe to win the 4x200 with the time of 1:50.83. She also finished second to teammate Breanna Kimmel in the 200 meter dash with the time of 26.20.

Closing out individual championships for the girls was returning state placer Lauren Christian as she won the shoot put with a toss of 41-10.00.

Cade Harshbarger was dominate for the boys as he swept the 110 an 300 meter hurdles with meet record times of 14.96 in the 110's and 39.43 in the 300's. He also teamed with his brother Gray Harshbarger, Tyler Freeman and Nathan Lyle to win the 4x400 relay in the time of 3:32.04.

Jett Murphy, who is the current school record holder in the pole vault, won this same event with a eighth of 14-06.00.

The boys 4x200 relay team of Alex Shaffer, Gray Harshbarger, Nathan Lyle and Andrew Cates won in the time of 1:33.04.

Next up for the Buccaneer track teams is the Cross County Championships beginning next Thursday at Twin Valley South.
