FRIDAY, MAY 2, 2014 - HUBER HEIGHTS
few of Covington's track athletes traveled to Wayne High School on Friday to test themselves against the top athletes in the state of Ohio in the Wayne Invitation Elite Finals.
And what transpired was a history-making night for Lane White and Jackie Siefring as both broke their own school records.
First, Jackie Siefring shattered her own school record in the 300 meter hurdles, finishing first in the time of 43.54 - a time that broke her old mark of 44.72. Siefring time was two second ahead of the second place finisher in an event that had 48 competitors in all divisions across the state. Her time of 43.54 was also just short of the track record of 43.48.
Second, Lane White finished second out of 56 competitors in the 400 meter dash, finishing just behind Nick Gray of Pickerington North in a photo finish. Gray, who owns the fastest time in the state of Ohio in any division this year, is the projected state champion in Division I. Gray finished in 48.65, while White came in at 48.97, a time that broke his previous school record of 49.03.
Finally, Dalton Bordelon and Ben Miller achieved personal bests in the 300 meter hurdles. Out of 57 competitors, Bordelon finished 10th in a time of 40.63, while Miller finished 13th in a time of 41.23.
Due to the cold conditions, all Covington competitors only competed in one event.
