MAY 11, 2013 - COVINGTON
On a cold, damp, windy day that felt more like the month of March than May, both the Covington boys and girls track teams overcame the elements and stiff competition to claim championships in the Covington Invitational on Saturday.

The girls, competing with just 13 participants, managed to squeak by co-runner-ups Russia and Fort Loramie by two points. Covington finished with 115 team points, while Russia and Fort Loramie tallied 113.

Leading the way for the Lady Buccs was junior Jackie Siefring, who set a new meet record in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 15.45. Siefring also won the 300 meter hurdles (46.16), the 200 meter dash (26.69) and the long jump (16-00.00).

Freshman Carly Shell claimed Covington's final individual title by winning the 3200 meter run in the time of 11:43.40. Shell also placed third in the 1600 meter run (5:28.94).

Tara Snipes finished with two second place performances in the 800 (2:33.73) and the 1600 meter run (5:19.99).

Jenna Rindler placed runner-up in the shot (30-11) and discuss (108-11), while the 4x800 meter relay team of Snipes, Shell, Julianna Yingst and Briana Grilliot took second in a time of 10:50.20.

A.J. Ouellette heads down the track on his way to winning the 100 meter dash.

BUCC BOYS ROLL...
The boys had a huge day on the track by scoring 127 team points, 28 more points than runner-up Milton-Union.

And it came without the services of Lane White, who was heavily favored in the 400 meter dash and also competed in the 200 meter dash, as well as the Buccs' 4x200 and 4x400 meter relay teams.

Still, the Buccs managed five individual titles on the day with A.J. Ouellette and Troy Cron leading the way with two each.

Ouellette won the 100 (11.30) and 200 (24.08), while Cron dominated the 110 meter hurdles (15.13) and 300 meter hurdles (40.50). Alex Schilling also claimed a championship, coming from behind to beat Russia's Steven Stickel at the wire in a time of 4:41.60.

Several Buccaneers accumulated key points by taking runner-up, including the 4x100 (46.23) and 4x400 (3:39.81) meter relay teams.

Also taking second were Ryan Craft in the high jump (6-0), Dalton Bordelon in the 300 meter hurdles (43.10) and Ben Miller in the 110 meter hurdles (15.72).

With another impressive outing under its belt, Covington travels to West Alexandria next Thursday to kick off the two day Cross County Conference Championships.

Carly Shell claimed a championship in the 3200 meter run.
