BOYS TAKE 1ST, GIRLS 2ND IN HOME QUAD...

APRIL 3, 2012 - COVINGTON
Tuesday was a chance for the Covington boys and girls track teams to have some fun - step outside the box and compete in different events.

"We had some runners who ran different events than what they may normally run," said Ron Schultz.

With Greenville, Bethel and Newton in the field, the boys took first with 95 points and the girls took second to Greenville with 61 points. But it wasn't all about winning.

"We also held back some kids because there is a big meet coming up on Thursday," Schultz continued. "We also ran our reserve kids in five races, so it was fun and the kids did really well."

For example, A.J. Ouellete didn't run his familiar 100 and 200 meter dashes and competed only in the 4x100 meter relay. Lane White didn't run the 400 and instead ran the 200 meter dash.

Still, White put on a dazzling display in the 200, running a 23.10 in only his second time ever running the race. And this was after taking second in the 1600 with a time of 4:50.1.

Sam Christian and Cole Owens were in their familiar events and the duo went first and second in both the shot and discus.

Troy Cron took first in three events, the 110 meter hurldes, 300 meter hurdles and the long jump.

The Buccaneer relay teams to take first were the 4x100 and 4x800 meter relay teams.

For the girls, it was a stellar day as well as Covington won six of the 17 events.

Tara Snipes was dominant in the 1600 and 800, while Jenna Rendler swept the shot put and discus and Kayleigh Cecil won the 3200 meter run.

Covington's 4x400 meter relay team also took first.

Both the boys and girls travel to Miami East on Thursday.
