CHRISTIAN AND SNIPES MAKE IT TO REGIONAL...

Two competitors made it out of the district track meet this weekend at Milton Union as freshman Tara Snipes took second in the 800 meter run and senior Ben Christian claimed a district title in the discuss and placed third in the shot put.

Snipes put together a stellar performance in the 800 meter run for the girls as she placed a close second to heavy favorite Julie Accurso of Miami East by just .53 of a second. The Covington freshman finished in 2:20.67, while Accurso won the event in 2:20.14.

The girls came up just short of finishing in the top four in the 4x400 meter relay, taking fifth in a time of 4:23.17.

For the boys, Ben Christian had a big weekend, claiming first in the discuss with a toss of 139-11 and third in the shot put with a throw of 45-09.50. Christian advances to the regional in both events in his first year of track since he was in junior high.

His younger brother, Sam had a heartbreaking weekend as he came up short of getting out to the regional meet in both events. Sam took fifth in the discuss with a throw of 132-01 and fifth in the shot put with a distance of 45-03.50.

Willy Hoffert also came up just short in his bid to make it to the regional meet as he placed fifth in the 3200 meter run. Hoffert, who has battled flu symptoms since the CCC Meet, ran an impressive time of 10:30.64 under the circumstances.

As a team, the boys finished ninth with 29 points, while the girls took tenth with 26 points.

Tara Snipes continued her impressive freshman season with a trip to the regional meet.
