2008 COVINGTON BUCCS GIRLS TRACK TEAM...
Graduation losses have left some holes, but the talent remains for a successful season.
The Covington Lady Buccs have to find a way to fill the voids left behind by four talented seniors of a year ago - Meredith Tobias, Alex Christian, Chelsea Tebbe and Stephanie Crossman.
But the talent remains from a team that finished fourth in the league meet and challenged the upper tier teams throughout the season.
Returning are seniors Ashley Diltz, Mackenize Potter and Ashley Hoblit, each who have contributed over the past four years.
Diltz has been a steady performer in the 1600 and 800 meter runs and has participated in several relays and the grueling 3200 meter run. A regional qualifier last season, Diltz finished second in the league meet in both the 1600 and 800 - and ran an amazing 15 laps while placing in four races at Miami East last season.
Joining Diltz in the distance events will be Ashley Hoblit, Tara McNutt and Emily Fields - who each have distance experience in Cross Country this past fall.
Returning from a injury that kept her out for most of last season, Renee Otte will be looking to get back to the form that took her to Columbus as a freshman. Otte placed 8th at state in the long jump two years ago and will also lead the Lady Buccs in sprinting events.
Joining Otte will be Holly Tobias, Rachel Rindler and Kelsey Tobias, who led Covington in the long jumps and sprints last season. Leading Covington once again in the high jump and several relay teams will be Alyssa Angle.
With the talent on the roster and several individual standouts, the Lady Buccs have the makings of being one of the top teams in the CCC in 2008.
