May 24, 2008 – WEST MILTON
After two days of competition at the 2008 District Track Meet in West Milton, three individual performers and one relay team will represent Covington at regionals in Dayton next week.

Senior Brock Iddings overcame a disappointing start to the weekend by claiming births at regionals in two events, the 300 Meter Hurdles and the Long Jump.

He was looking for three events, but fell in the preliminaries of the 110 Meter Hurdles while leading the race comfortably heading into the last four hurdles. But he rebounded by finishing third in the Long Jump with a leap of 19-08.50 and then qualifying for Saturday's final in the 300 Meter Hurdles.

Iddings was stellar on Saturday as he ran a 40.57 in the 300 to lock up third. His time would have been under 40 seconds except he had to stutter-step to maneuver over a hurdle around the turn. He couldn't make up the difference, but still managed to finish strong and secure his place at regionals.

Another senior having a big weekend was Ashley Diltz. She heads to regionals in two events, the 800 Meter Run and the 4x800 Meter Relay. Joining Diltz in the 4x800 Meter Relay, a race they qualified for regionals on Thursday, will be Josselyn Tobias, Alyssa Angle and Holly Tobias.

In the 800, Diltz ran a tactical race as she blended with the pack until the final 300 meters. With gas left in the tank, Diltz passed several runners down the stretch to finish third. Her time of 2:23.90 was 12 seconds better than her preliminary time of 2:35.96.

The final Buccaneer performer to be competing at regionals for a chance to go to state will be Renee Otte. The junior qualified with a fourth place finish in the long jump with a distance of 14-09.25.

It was a significant accomplishment for Otte as she placed at state in the same event as a freshman before suffering a torn ACL as a sophomore. She has battled her way back after a year away and now has an opportunity to get back to Columbus with a solid showing next week.

The girls finish eighth with 29 team points, while the boys finish ninth with 28 team points.

May 22, 2008 – WEST MILTON
It was an up and down day for the boys and girls track teams in the first day of the District Track Meet at West Milton on Thursday as there were some stunning disappointments and some outstanding achievements.

The day started out with extreme disappointment as Brock Iddings, a heavy favorite to qualify for the Regional Meet in the 110 Meter Hurdles, fell in the qualifying round as he tripped on the third to last hurdle. It was a heartbreaking turn of events for Iddings, who set the school record just a week ago with a 15.4 effort at the CCC Meet.

But the senior rebounded like a true champion by qualifying for the finals in the 300 Meter Hurdles with a time of 42.25 and punching his ticket to Regional Meet in the long jump with a leap of 19 feet, 8.5 inches.

The Girls 4x800 Meter Relay team followed with a stellar performance to qualify for Regionals with a fourth place finish. The team of Ashley Diltz, Josselyn Tobias, Alyssa Angle and Holly Tobias completed the race in 10:20.34.

Disappointment for the Buccs struck again in the boys Discuss as senior Jake Wise failed to qualify after fouling on his first two attempts and throwing 117 feet on his final attempt - nearly 30 feet off his best effort of the season.

But the girls 4x400 Meter Relay team of Rachel Rindler, Josselyn Tobias, Alyssa Angle and Holly Tobias qualified for the finals with a time of 4:23.27.

Renee Otte qualified for the finals in two events, the 400 Meter Dash (1:03.76) and the 200 Meter Dash (28.26). She also has a chance to qualify for Regionals in the Long Jump.

Bill Dickey will also run in the finals of the 400 Meter Dash on Saturday as he qualified with a time of 55.01.

Ashley Diltz and Curtis Dysinger kept their dreams alive of qualifying in the 800 Meter Run as they punched their ticket into Saturday's finals. Diltz ran a 2:35.96 race, while Dysinger finished in 2:12.60 for the boys.

There are plenty of opportunities ahead for the Buccaneer track teams as more trips to the Regional Meet will be decided on Saturday.

Brock Iddings bounced back from a disappointing outcome in the 110 Meter Hurdles to launch his way to Regionals in the Long Jump.
