BOYS 5TH, GIRLS 6TH AT COUNTY MEET...
Both the boys and girl track teams had solid showings at the Miami County Track Meet in Troy on Tuesday.
April 22, 2008 TROY
Covington senior Brock Iddings has become a marked man since he arrived on the scene a year ago in the 110 meter hurdles.
Despite the pressure of being the one to beat at virtually every meet, Iddings has continued to live up to the challenge and Tuesday's meet at Troy for Miami County bragging rights was no different.
Competing against most athletes from larger school, Iddings blew through the competition in the 110 and 300 Meter Hurdles. He finished nearly a full second ahead of the second place runner in the 110 distance with a winning time of 16.21 and then rolled through the 300 in 41.66.
The senior then claimed fourth in the long jump (18-10) and contributed in a second place finish in the 1,600 Meter Relay, where he teamed with Logan Hall, Zack Gibson and Bill Dickey.
Jake Wise also had a big afternoon for Covington as he claimed first place in the discuss with a toss of 142.3. Wise, who worked out all winter in preparation for track season, has been finding his form as of late.
For the girls, Renee Otte returned from injury with a vengeance by taking first in the long jump with a leap of 15-3. It was a huge confidence booster for the junior as she missed the entire season a year ago after placing eighth at state as a freshman.
Otte also competed in the 400 and 200 Meter Dash, where she finished third and eighth.
Senior Ashley Diltz continues to be "Miss Everything" for Covington as she placed in two individual events and two relays. Diltz took fifth in both the 1600 and 800.
The track teams travel to Ansonia on Friday for the Tiger Relays.
