CASSTOWN – The Covington Buccaneers played well, but dropped a league contest 6-3 to a very talented Miami East team on Monday.

Covington was in a solid position of the game through four innings as it built a 2-1 lead. Miami East scored its first run in the bottom of the third and the Buccaneers took the lead by plating two runs in the top of the fourth.

Miami East took a 4-2 lead by pushing three runs across the plate in the bottom of the fifth and and then scored two more runs in the bottom of the sixth after Covington put one run on the board in the top of the sixth.

The Buccaneers played well in all phases of the game, but just couldn’t find a way to escape with a win. The solid performance was evident by the fact that Covington didn’t commit a single error and racked up eight hits against a very good Miami East team.

Plus, junior pitcher Tyler Jay threw very well as her went the distance on the mound. Jay struck out seven batters and allowed juts two walks.

Jacob Tipps led the Buccs at the plate by going 3-for-3. Grant Blore, Brairen Denson, Tyler Jay, Carter Owens and Ashton Skaggs all recorded one hit.

Defeats are hard to swallow, but the loss to the Vikings doesn’t put a bad reflection on Covington baseball. That’s because Miami East has only one loss this season and has outscored its opponents 118 to 26.

The Buccs fall to 5-8 overall, 3-5 in the TRC and play at Northridge tomorrow.
