APRIL 6, 2016 - COVINGTON
Covington played host to Tri-Village on Wednesday in a make-up game and used the momentum gained from a big win on Tuesday at Ansonia to record a second straight run-rule victory by the score of 10-0.
"We hit the ball well again tonight," said Covington coach Dean Denlinger after his team pounded out 16 hits in five innings of action. "That's back-to-back games we’ve hit the ball pretty well."
And Covington received a solid pitching and defensive effort as well as Brooke Gostomsky hurled a complete game two-hitter. She struck out ten and walked just three, while the defense behind her committed just one error.
Several players had big games at the plate with Brooke Gostomsky leading the way by going 3-for-3 with a home run, a double and two RBI. Kara Schaffer was 3-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI and Ashley Cecil was also 3-for-3 with an RBI and two stolen bases.
That's not all, as Arianna Richards went 3-for-4 with two RBI and Allison Babylon appears to be retuning to form from an ankle injury as she went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI.
Also recording hits for Covington were Lexie Long, who connected on a double, and Megan Alexander.
Chelsea Ford and Makenna Gostomsky both stole two bases each as pinch runners.
"We're playing pretty well, but there's always room for improvement," Denlinger said. "We just have to keep getting better because we're not quite there yet."
Covington improves its record to 8-1 overall and 3-0 in the CCC as Bethel comes to town tomorrow.
