OPENING CCC WITH A WIN...
After eight straight non-league games, the Covington Lady Buccs opened the conference schedule with a 4-1 win at Tri-Village.
TUESDAY, APRIL 9, 20013 - NEW MADISON
Just 24 hours off a thrilling eleventh inning marathon against, the Covington Lady Buccs traveled to New Madison to play Tri-Village in a sandstorm.

"Tough conditions," said Covington coach Dean Denlinger of Covington's CCC opener. "The wind was blowing brick dust everywhere. It was tough for both teams out there."

And the game reflected the conditions as both teams combined for five errors in the contest.

"It was a slow game too, at least it seemed that way after last night (against Minster)," Denlinger explained.

Still, Covington was able to overcome the conditions and a gritty Tri-Village team to take a 4-1 victory and improve to 9-0 on the season and 1-0 in the Cross County Conference.

Tri-Village opened the scoring in the bottom of the first as it took advantage of a Covington error to take a 1-0 lead.

Covington had its chances early to put runs on the board, but couldn't break through until the fourth inning as Haley Adams drove a double in the gap that scored Brittanie Flora and Morgan Arbogast.

"It took us a while to break through," Denlinger said. "We failed to do some of the little things we needed to do to move runners."

After a scoreless fifth inning, Covington broke through again as Adams singled to score Erin Olson, the courtesy runner for Connor Schaffer who led off with a single.

Jessica Dammeyer then drove in the final run of the contest.

"This was a good win, a good way to open up the CCC schedule," said Denlinger. "We've played a tough schedule so far."

Arbogast went six innings on the rubber for Covington. She struck out eight and surrendered two walks.

Casey Yingst threw the final inning, striking out two of the three batters she faced.

Adams went 2-3 on the day with a double and 3 RBI, while Arbogast went 2-3, Dammeyer drove in a run and Heidi Snipes doubled.

Covington has a much deserved day off tomorrow before hosting Ansonia on Thursday.
