LADY BUCCS SHUT OUT TROY..
Covington tested itself against Division I Troy and came away with an impressive 4-0 shutout win over the Trojans.

MAY 9, 2013 - TROY
Covington traveled to Troy to play the Division I Lady Trojans on Thursday and Lady Bucc coach Dean Denlinger was happy with the way his team responded.

"Troy was ready to play us," said Denlinger. "This was a very good game between two good teams and I'm happy with the way our girls responded. We were focused and executed very well."

The game was scoreless through three innings, but Covington broke the ice by putting two runs on the board in the top of the fourth.

The Lady Buccs then scored a run in the fifth and another in the sixth on an RBI single by Jessie Shilt to push the lead to 4-0.

From there, Casey Yingst and the Lady Bucc defense shut down the Trojan hitters to preserve the shutout.

"Defense is our identity," Denlinger explained. "We played very good defense again. We're communicating and rotating very well. We're doing some great things defensively."

Which was critical as Troy possesses a dangerous lineup, but Covington held the Trojans to just three hits in the contest.

"Casey threw pretty well," Denlinger said. "But it always comes back to the defense."

Covington also hit the ball well, tallying 10 hits in the contest.

Brittanie Flora had the big bat with three hits and one RBI in three at bats, while Jessie Shilt continued her impressive season by going 1-3 with a double and an RBI.

Casey Yingst helped out her own cause by going 2-3 with a double and an RBI and Morgan Arbogast connected on an RBI single.

Connor Schaffer doubled and Heidi Cron reached on a beautiful bunt.

The victory pushes Covington's record to 24-0 on the season as the Lady Buccs return home to face Bethel on Saturday.
