ENJOYING PLAYING TOGETHER...
The Covington Lady Buccs are having fun playing as a team, which was evident in an 11-0 run-rule win over Tri-County North.

APRIL 23, 2013 - LEWISBURG
When you have a team that enjoys each other's company in the dugout and on the field, it leads to nights like Covington had at Tri-County North on Tuesday in an 11-0 run-rule win over the Panthers.

"We're playing well together," said Covington coach Dean Denlinger. "It's because we have a group of unselfish kids who enjoy each other's company. Even the kids in the dugout, they are instrumental in our success."

That closeness and unselfishness was not only on display during the game, but after the game as senior pitcher Casey Yingst was honored by Channel 7 News as "Player of the Week".

Yingst gave her teammates the credit and her teammates gave her a rousing cheer.

"That's the kind of team we are," explained Denlinger. "Casey wanted to be interviewed with the rest of the team, but for whatever reason they didn't want to do that. But it was nice that she was able to receive her award with the team by her side."

And the team was by Yingst's side through a two-hit, twelve strikeout performance as the Lady Buccs played error-free ball once again in recording their seventh shutout and fifth run-rule victory in thirteen games.

Offensively, Covington recorded 17 hits in the contest as Jessie Shilt went 3-for-3 with an RBI double, Heidi Snipes drove in five runs on three hits and double, and Connor Schaffer connected on a solo home run.

Yingst helped out her own cause at the plate with a pair of doubles and an RBI, while Morgan Arbogast doubled and both Cassidy Cain and Jessica Dammeyer went 2-for-3.

"We hit the ball hard, but we also did a very nice job of bunting tonight," praised Denlinger of his team. "We moved the runners well."

The victory moves Covington's record to 13-0 over all and 3-0 in the CCC as Twin Valley South comes to town tomorrow.
