|THURSDAY, APRIL 4, 2013 - COLDWATER
The Covington Lady Buccs made the long bus ride to Coldwater a memorable on by run-ruling the host Cavaliers 10-0 in five innings of action to improve to 4-0 on the season.
"They are young, but they have a nice team," said Covington coach Dean Denlinger of Coldwater. "We made some mistakes, but overall we played pretty well."
The mistakes Covington made didn't show up in the book as the Lady Buccs played their third error-free game in four outings.
"Yeah, we've only had the one error so far, but there are some mistakes that we need to work on," explained Denlinger. "There's always room for improvement."
When you have the type of pitching Covington enjoys, mistakes can be minimized as Casey Yingst and Morgan Arbogast were on fire on the mound. The duo combined to strike out 11 batters and record the one-hitter as Yingst went three innings and Arbogast two.
Offensively, Covington tallied eight hits in the contest and scored all ten runs in the first four innings.
Haley Adams went 3-3 with a double and 2 RBI, while Cassidy Cain drove in three runs with a double on a 2-3 night.
Jessie Shilt tripled for Covington and Connor Schaffer connected on a two-run home run in the fourth inning.
But what made the outing so fruitful for Covington was the fact that 15 players contributed on the evening.
"We got 15 girls in and that's a great luxury to have," said Denlinger. "We can put anyone into the game at any time and not miss a beat."
It also give Denlinger the flexibility to try different lineups.
"We've had five different lineups so far this season," he explained. "We're still trying to find ourselves."
Covington is back in action tomorrow at new Bremen and then returns home on Saturday for a double-header against Centerville.
