MAY 5, 2011 - NEW MADISON
The Covington Lady Buccs took all of their frustration from Tuesday's loss to Newton out on Tri-Village on Thursday, racking up 20 hits in a 14-4 victory.
"Everyone in our lineup got a hit tonight," said Covington coach Dean Denlinger. "We hit he ball well."
Covington also used its entire pitching staff as Chloe Shell, Aubrye Cain, Casey Yingst and Heidi Snipes combined to strike out 10 batters and allow just six hits.
"It was nice to be able to use four pitchers," said Denlinger. "And they threw pretty well too."
Covington scored in each inning but the third, including a six-run outburst in the sixth.
Snipes and Shainna Grilliot both went 3-for-4, while Jesse Shilt and Aubrye Cain went 3-for-5. Connor Schaeffer, Brittanie Flora and Chloe Shell each connected on a pair of hits as well.
Shilt and Schaeffer tripled in the contest.
"Overall we played pretty well," Denlinger said. "But we did have a couple of mental mistakes, especially in the fourth inning. We lost our focus a little bit."
And Tri-Village took advantage by scoring all of its run in the fourth.
But it wasn't enough as Covington improved to 19-4 overall and 11-1 in the CCC.
